Community education classes are now being offered at Ohio University Southern’s Ironton and Proctorville campuses.

The classes are open to the general public regardless of educational background and are self-supporting. The fees collected from classes cover the instructional, administrative and overhead cost of the program.

Registration and enrollment must be completed prior to the first class session. If the minimum enrollment for a class is not met, the class could be cancelled.

Classes offered at the Ironton campus are:

Community Crafting Class with instructor Beverly Queen meets 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 4, 18 and 25 and Dec. 2, 9 and 16 at a location yet to be determined.

This class will inspire “A Merry and Bright Christmas” as participants create Christmas ornaments and décor. Create festive holiday updates for the home and have the satisfaction of saying, “Yes, I did it myself.”

Course enrollment minimum is eight and maximum is 12.

Cost for the class is $39.38.

Essential Oils 101 with instructor Katie Hostetter meets 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the OUS Caucus Room.

This introductory course will teach the history of essential oils, what they are and how they can be incorporated into everyday life. Learn how people use essential oils to boost their immune systems, address health and wellness naturally, first aid, toxic-free cleaning, pet care, cooking and more. Each participant will leave with a sample.

Course enrollment minimum is five and cost is $14.

Quilting 101 with instructor Sue Cahal meets 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and Thursday, Nov. 7, in a location to be determined.

Learning to match colors that will go well with the quilt and using math to make quilt blocks needed for the quilt size are fundamentals of this class. Students will learn to make the Rail Fence Quilt, which can be completed in one day, depending on students’ progress. Class may have to be held for at least two days.

Students will need to bring needles, gray thread and a working sewing machine with the guidebook that shows details of the machine. This quilt also requires 1 3/4 yards of six different fabrics and three yards of border fabric.

Course enrollment minimum and maximum is six and cost $46.67.
