Each year, people from all over Tri-State take a stroll through Woodland Cemetery to hear the tales and legends of some of Lawrence County’s most famous residents.

An Underground Railroad conductor, war heroes, Ironton’s founder, wealthy women, doctors and others tell their stories graveside during the Historical Walk.

But this annual event would not be possible without the many volunteers and members of the Lawrence County Historical Society who work to organize the walk and reprise their roles year after year.

Each volunteer gives of his or her own time to keep the walk going year after year and bring history to life for each visitor.

And those who attend the walk get a history lesson that can’t be found in any school textbooks. The real heritage and history of the people who make Ironton and Lawrence County unique is what makes the historic walk a mainstay event in the community.

The historical walk keeps the stories and history alive so they won’t be forgotten for future generations.
