SOUTH POINT — Ernie N. White, 89, of South Point, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. The Lawrence County native was born June 30, 1919, to the late James and Pearl White.
Ernie was a World War II Army Veteran, Battery D, 432nd AAA Battalion, where he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal. He served his military duty in Italy and Africa. He retired from the Dayton Malleable Iron Co. and was of the Baptist faith. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 8850 in Ironton and loved gardening. In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Bennett White, whom he married on Feb. 26, 1956; five brothers, Ralph White, Clarence White, Fred White, James White and Ray White; and two sisters, Dosha Matney and Mildred Ross.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Jean and Clarence Huff of Ironton, and Connie Franklin of South Point; four grandchildren, Mark and Niccole Franklin of South Point, Senior Airman Michael Franklin of South Korea, Rhonda and Shannon Heaberlin of Kitts Hill and Shane and Megan Huff of Kitts Hill; eight great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Lainey and Emalee Darlene Franklin; Trevor, Braden and Corey Heaberlin, Michael Keith Franklin II and Hunter Huff; and special people in his life: several nieces and nephews, Roger Collins Fred and Jackie Craft and Jean Bowman
Funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, with Pastor Terry Wagner officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Garden Mausoleum. Military graveside rites will be provided by VFW 8850. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mark Franklin, Roger Collins, Dale Ross, Tim Ross, Steve Brown and Chris Brown.
