ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police in Ashland say an 11-year-old girl has been charged after a threat of violence was made on social media toward schools in Greenup County.
Police say they began investigating Tuesday after being informed of the threat. In a statement early Wednesday, police said they were able to locate the suspect in less than six hours. Police said there are no other suspects and no additional threats have been made.
State police said Wednesday afternoon that the girl was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening. No other information was released.
Media report three school districts in the area closed on Wednesday due to the threat — Greenup County, Raceland-Worthington and Russell Independent Schools.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
