COAL GROVE — Fun, food and fellowship will be in full swing on Saturday at Coal Grove Memorial United Methodist Church’s tenth annual “Block Party.”

Pastor Brad Jenkins said the event has grown every year.

“It’s a free community outreach event,” he said. “It takes place right on the front lawn of the church.”

Free hot dogs and beans and cornbread will be served at noon. Prior to that will be a cake and pie contest.

“The cake and pie auction is open to anyone,” Jenkins said. “All we ask is that all entries are at the church by 10 a.m.”

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third-place winners as well as a prize for best presentation.

Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital is sponsoring a health fair to screen for blood pressure, blood sugar and other tests.

A corn hole tournament will take place and there will be inflatables and games for children. A limited supply of items, such as school supplies, will be given away to children.

In the event of rain, Jenkins said, the event will be postponed.

Showing God’s presence in the community is the purpose behind the church’s annual event that was started 10 years ago by former pastor Steve Judson. Jenkins has continued the block party because “it is important to reach out to the community and let people know we are here and care for them and extend God’s love to the community.”

The event is from noon-3 p.m. The church is located at 226 Memorial St. in Coal Grove.
