A resolution authorizing the acceptance of the Ohio University Southern sewer at the school’s childhood development center in Hanging Rock is the lone agenda item for tonight’s regular meeting of Ironton City Council.

According to resolution 14-34, officials from OUS approached city officials about sewage generated from the facility, which is outside municipal corporation limits, and to be transmitted via a proposed pressurized main and discharge at the city sanitary sewer collection system.

Also in the resolution the city agrees to receive the sewer and would provide a letter of intent to accept the sanitary sewer so OUS officials can submit an application for a permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency following review of available system capacity by the city’s engineer.

The resolution also states OUS would retain ownership of the proposed pressurized main for its use and maintenance unless otherwise mutually agreed.

The resolution also calls for an emergency declaration for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Ironton.

The regular meeting is at 6 p.m. following a 5 p.m. meeting of council’s finance committee on the third floor of the city center on South Third Street.
