Roy DePriest

Roy Henry DePriest, 83, of Piqua, died on July 9, 2014, at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Bata Fields DePriest; three brothers, George, Charles and Raymond (infant) DePriest; and two sisters, Margaret Joseph and Gloria Boone.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Horwedel DePriest; three children, Nicole Kelbick, Christine Fortenberry and C. Anthony DePriest; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services were provided by Jamieson and Yannucci Funeral Home.

Mamie Carmon

April 4, 1919 — Sept. 5, 2014

Mamie Marcella Turvey Carmon, 95, of Otway, formerly of Pedro, passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at her residence. The Scioto County native was born April 4, 1919, a daughter of the late Solomon and Bertha Belle Hughes Turvey.

Mamie attended Clinton Furnace Schools in Scioto County and was a former manager of the laundry department at Lawrence County General Hospital and worked for the Henrites Company. She attended Lawrence Furnace United Methodist Church and lived all her life in the Lawrence and Scioto counties area.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Carmon; five brothers, Alfred, Bill, Ephram, Levi and John Turvey; and three sisters, Alice Monroe, Rena Burton and Minnie Adams.

She is survived by a niece, Juanita Belford, of Otway; a special nephew, Dale Turvey of Ironton; several others nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Cemetery in Scioto County. George Humphrey

March 13, 1919 — Sept. 5, 2014

George Luther Humphrey, 95, of Bald Knob, passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at his home. The Lawrence County native was born March 13, 1919, a son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Hobstetter Humphrey. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Love Humphrey, whom he married Nov. 14, 1945.

Mr. Humphrey was a graduate of the Kitts Hill High School and was a U.S. World War II Army veteran serving in the 401st AAA Gun Battalion. He attended the Bald Knob Church, was a former employee for the Carlyle Tile Company and a self-employed farmer, which he loved doing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward (Edna) Humphrey and Ervin (June) Humphrey; five sisters, Katherine (Bill) Morris, Ella (Dewey) White, Eva (Charles) Payne, Mildred (Wendell) Corn, and Hildred (Carl) Norris; a daughter-in-law, Telisa Humphrey; and a great-granddaughter, Peyton Humphrey.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jack (Kay) Humphrey, Jeff (Cassi) Humphrey and Rodger (Diana) Humphrey; three daughters, Sandra Humphrey, Nancy (Fred) Blankenship, and Joy (Bill) Tackett; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Franklin and Susie Love; 15 grandchildren, Jason (Vicki) Humphrey, Lance Humphrey, Sarah (Jamie) Rice, Lora (Aaron) Freeman, SSGT John (Josie) Blankenship, Eric (Loretta) Tackett, Julie Kelley, Luke (Beth) Tackett, Timothy (Kristen) Humphrey, Dustin (Courtney) Humphrey, Tracy (Zach) Carey, Meagan (Paul) Kerns, Hilary Humphrey, Zachary Humphrey and Hannah Humphrey; and

16 great-grandchildren, Emma, Joshua, Noah and Jayce Humphrey, Eilee and Eli Freeman, Ethan Rice, Jaida Kelley, Brooke, Carter, and Cailey Carey, Jeremy, Chayden, Brysen, and Layce Kerns and Ellie Tackett.

Graveside service is 11 a.m. Monday in Myrtle Ridge Cemetery with pastor James Kearns officiating. There will be no public visitation and Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. James France

James W. France, 79, of Huntington, W.Va., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at Hospice House of Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Minnie France. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
