Ohio State, UConn will play basketball series

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut men’s basketball team, looking to bolster its nonconference schedule, has announced deals to play Ohio State and Arizona in a pair of home-and-home series.

The defending champion Huskies will host the Buckeyes in December 2015, before traveling to Columbus in December 2016, the schools announced Wednesday.

UConn is 2-3 all-time against Ohio State. The teams last met in the Final Four in 1999, with Connecticut winning 64-58 on its way to its first national title.

 

Steelers’ Bell, Blount arrested on drug charge

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount will be charged with marijuana possession following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

Ross Township detective Brian Kohlhepp said traffic officer Sean Stafiej pulled over a Camaro operated by Bell around 1:30 p.m. after Stafiej, who was on a motorcycle, noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Stafiej found a 20 gram bag of marijuana inside the car. Bell, Blount and a female passenger all claimed ownership of the marijuana according to police.

Bell, 22, was taken to a hospital to have blood drawn and is expected to be charged with driving under the influence of marijuana.

 

New Mexico women’s soccer guilty of hazing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The University of New Mexico’s athletic director says there’s absolutely no question there was hazing by the women’s soccer team.

Athletic Director Paul Krebs told a news conference Wednesday that the incident involved the entire women’s soccer team and that alcohol was involved. Two team members were sent to the hospital following the incident, which a police report said involved players who were extremely intoxicated.

Krebs says no one was forced to drink, but because of peer pressure officials consider it hazing,

Krebs says the team is participating in anti-hazing classes and will have to do community service.

He says the investigation continues and additional punishments are possible.

On Tuesday, two sisters quit the team and withdrew from the school.

 

Ex-Bills’ QB Kelly shows no evidence of cancer

BUFFALO, NY (AP) — Jim Kelly shows no evidence of sinus cancer three months after the Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback completed radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

Dr. Peter Costantino says in a release issued by New York City’s Lenox Hill Hospital that the treatments have “completely eliminated” any pain Kelly was experiencing. He says Kelly’s level of function has “essentially returned to normal.”
