KITTS HILL — Merril L. Ferris, 71, of Kitts Hill, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 15, 2009, while visiting in Hampton, Va.
The Chesapeake native was born Dec. 7, 1937, the son of the late Erskine W. and Ella Mae Porter Ferris. He is survived by his wife, Christine J. Nance Ferris, whom he married April 24, 1963.
Mr. Ferris attended Chesapeake High School. He was a retired painter for Jo Lin Health Center for over 25 years and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Ferris and a special sister-in-law, Wilma Ferris.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Glynda and Tim Hilgenberg of Marion, and Angie and Leland Rose of Scottown, a son and daughter-in-law: M/Sgt. Larry and Paula Ferris of Hampton, Va.; six grandchildren whom he cherished, Kassy, Leslie, Shawna, Matthew, Justin and Brandon; three great grandchildren whom he loved with all of his heart, Hannah, Kelsey and Hunter; four
brothers, Eugene Ferris of Baltimore, Md., Rudolph Ferris, William Ferris, and Hubert Ferris all of Chesapeake; two sisters, Fredia Foster of Piketon, and Shirley Murdock of Scottown. He leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Msgr. Lawrence Luciana officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
