More than 13 miles of roads in the county are slated for paving starting next Thursday. The projects are expected to be completed by the first of September.

On the county’s side 11.82 miles will be resurfaced, according to Lawrence County Engineer Doug Cade. Those projects will include resurfacing County Road 54, County Road 69, the first three miles of County Road 2, County Road 406 and County Road 411. On County Roads 406 and 411 there will be microsurfacing or the application of a thin layer of asphalt.

That project will be handled by Allard Excavation of South Webster for $1,098,186.33.

On Aug. 7 Shelly Company of Thornville will start paving Solida Road from County Road 1 to U.S. 52; Hamilton Street and Riverside Drive, both in Coal Grove. Cost of that project is $144,400.

Also the county engineer’s office received $1.5 million for the construction of 100-foot two span truss bridge on County Road 10A in Elizabeth Township.

“It is one of the county’s top 30 worst bridges,” Cade said. “It was built in 1922. It is our No. 16 priority. During the annual inspection we have done on the bridge we have rated it as 4. It is in poor condition.”

Cade anticipates starting the design and environmental process in 90 to 120 days. Design work could take up to three years with the actual project completed in July 2019.

“We make sure we follow (Ohio Department of Transportation) planning and design process,” he said. “There are certain things that have to be done.”
