Elmer E. “Buddy” Browning, 78, of Ironton, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 7, 1930, the son of the late Allen Lee and Verna Marie Layne Browning.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Marie Hickman Goldcamp Browning, who passed away April 2, 1994 and his second wife, Patricia Evans Browning. He is survived by his wife, Icie Midge Reece Browning.
Buddy was a 1949 graduate of Ironton High School and attended the University of Alabama. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired electronic field engineer for RCA and General Electric in Cherry Hill, N.J. He was a member of the VFW Post 8850, the American Legion Ashland Post 276 and of the Protestantfaith.
In addition to his parents and first and second wives, he was also preceded in death by
a stepson, Donald Paul Goldcamp.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepsons, Gregory D. Goldcamp of Worthington, Randall Stapleton of Ashland, Ky., and Anthony Stapleton of Bothell, Wash.; several step grandchildren; four brothers, Larry Browning of Kitts Hill, Ronnie Browning of Coryville, Jimmy Browning of Ozark, Ala., and Jack Browning of Urick, Mo.; a sister, Miriam “Suzy” Gibson of Lexington, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home with Chaplain Jimm Smedley officiating. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8850.
