BRADENTON, Fla. — Vivian White Anderson, 98, of Bradenton, formerly of Dearborn, Mich., passed away Monday, May 4, 2009, in Bradenton. The Greenup County, Ky. native was born April 1, 1911, the daughter of James W. and Nell E. Carraway Williams White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Anderson.
Vivian lived in Pedro from the age of 9 until she married her childhood sweetheart, Howard, and they made their home in Ashland, Ky. They later moved to Michigan during the war effort. They did not return “home” until their retirement (she was a top saleslady at Sears). She enjoyed being near her siblings. Her sister, Virginia, lived down the road and her brothers were a short drive away. It was a fun time in their lives. Later, Howard’s ill health brought them back to Michigan to be near their children.
Vivian was preceded in death by her two youngest sons, Kenneth C. and James who died tragically in a plane accident in 1972. Her husband, Howard, died in 1996 and she lost her oldest son, William H. “Bill” in 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. “Bobbie” Thumm (Elmo) and daughters-in-law, Phyllis and Diane. Vivian was so proud of her 11 grandchildren, (she looked forward to the one on the way); 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her later years were spent with her daughter, Bobbie, in the sunshine state of Florida. Vivian White Anderson lived life to the fullest and we celebrate her 98 years of life well-lived.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, with Minister Michael White officiating. Burial will follow in Rude Cemetery in Flatwoods, Ky. Friends may call Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
