SOUTH POINT — William Berkley “Berk” Hayes, 83, of South Point, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
He was born Sept. 7, 1925 in Lawrence County, a son of the late Myron “Bud” and Loma Dailey Hayes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny C. Hayes and a sister, Doris Hayes.
Berkley was a WWII Army veteran, a member of Huntington VFW Post 1064, and American Legion Post 93. He retired from Spriggs Distributing Ironton.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva “Sis” Montgomery Hayes; two daughters, Connie Finley and her husband, Mike, and Carla Hayes; three granddaughters, Cari Beth, Christen, and Candice Finley all of South Point; three brothers, Bob and Timmy Hayes of Scottown, and Tommy Hayes of Proctorville; five sisters, Betty Tagg of Columbus, Peggy Schriner of Colorado, Patty Treadway of Scottown, Kay Hayes of Chesapeake, and Diana Wilgus of Proctorville and a special aunt, Doris Montgomery of Gallipolis.
Funeral service will be conducted 11a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville with Pastor Darrell Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Perkins Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CenterPoint Church of Scottown.
