The time has finally come that residents, officials and motorists traveling through the Rockwood Avenue area of Chesapeake on State Route 7 will no longer have to endure landslides and subsequent construction delays.

Tieback work to keep the hillside from slipping was completed on Friday and it was a welcome sight.

While the past few months have caused some headaches and delays for motorists, the end result of the work will hopefully alleviate the area from future issues.

Although other projects on State Route 7 between Chesapeake and Proctorville are still ongoing, it is certainly a breath of fresh air to see this long-standing issue finally be resolved.

We applaud village officials along with Chesapeake residents and motorists for remaining patient throughout this long and arduous process.

Ensuring the safety of residents and motorists should always be the top priority.

Because the Ohio Department of Transportation did not declare the slip an emergency, the timeframe for work to begin was delayed.

While it took extra time, developing a plan that would ultimately fix the problem was better than putting on temporary Band-Aid that would likely result in having to complete the work again.
