CHESAPEAKE — As the county looks to the eastern end as its latest focus for capital improvement, surveys must be taken before applications can be made to find funding.

Starting Wednesday through Friday, representatives from the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization will be going door-to-door soliciting income and household information.

“We will have a CAO representative come out to the neighborhood with a CAO identification for each resident to complete a three-question survey,” Ralph Kline of the CAO, said.

The information will be confidentially entered onto an iPad. The questions will be asked according to a category range.

“It could be like do you fit within a range of $10,000 to $15,000 income,” Kline said.

Household size would also be sought.

The county and the CAO want to receive Community Development Block Grant money to improve sidewalks, tear down eyesores and create possible parks and green areas in the Bradrick area.

“CDBG money can only be utilized in certain areas where there is a concentration of low and moderate income,” Kline said. “We have to be able to gather the data to apply for the funds.”

The area will be between Bradrick outside the Village of Chesapeake to Indian Guyan Creek, outside the Village of Proctorville. The surveys will be done during the day.

Also a community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chesapeake Community Center where residents of the area can give their input on what they would like to see there.
