Impeccable weather, good food, games and inflatables were just some of the reasons people turned out in droves on Saturday during the first day of the 28th annual Charity Fair in Ironton.

The charity fair is the school’s annual fundraiser and draws faces both old and new.

Ironton native Danielle Garrison, 29, has been attending the event for as long as she can remember.

“We are a military family so some years we just weren’t around during the fair,” she said. “But every year we are in the area we make sure we come to this. My boys love it.”

Garrison’s three sons, Jacob, 9, Nathanial, 6, and Alexander, 1, kept her busy with their want to partake in the plethora of attractions provided by M&M Inflatables.

“We were leaving and the two oldest said they wanted to do the trampoline jump one more time,” she said. “So, I’m still here. I don’t care though because they really enjoy it and so do I.”

Also available were water balls, a mechanical bull, slides and bounce houses. Games included a dart throw, ring toss, ball toss and a duck pond.

The fair is sponsored by the Catholic Community and continues 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday at the St. Joe High School parking lot.

Charity Fair Committee member Cara Clark said this year’s fair featured a new event, a cruise-in car show.

Baskets will be raffled, Clark said, and City Heat will play on Sunday.

Cash prizes totaling $10,000 will be given away during the three-day event with the drawing for the $5,000 grand prize at 1 p.m. on Monday. Second prize is $2,500 in cash, third prize is $1,000 and the next 10 prizes are $100. Two $50 attendance prizes were awarded Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets for the cash prize drawings are available for a $10 donation and can be obtained at the fair on Fifth and Quincy streets. Chris Monte, Sissy Clyse and Clark comprise the Charity Fair Committee.
