Planning for this year’s Ironton Farmers Market began in mid-January and this Friday and Saturday event organizers will see their plans spring into action as the market opens on Second Street across from the Transit Center.
Market manager Sam Heighton called the 2013 season a “great success” and said the market’s vendor list has doubled since the end of the season.
“The vendors are excited and ready to start another great season with many special events planned,” Heighton said. “Some of the items you’ll find at the market this first weekend are home-baked goods, tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, eggs, cantaloupe, hanging baskets, tomato plants and a large variety of starter plants.”
The market opens at 7 a.m. both Friday and Saturday and each day will feature handmade accessories, natural skin-care products and homemade candy. Home craft items such as homemade jewelry will also be available.
“A new vendor will be offering natural bug repellant, lip balm, lavender chamomile salve, beard conditioning oil, crocheted kitchen scrubbers, coasters and hair accessories to name a few,” Heighton said. “The local produce is not on the market yet but our vendors will be busy this week finding fresh out-of-area produce to offer. Some items will be in short supply so come early.”
