The Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District’s drug take back day will be Saturday at Ironton Hills.
The LSSWMD puts on the drug take back day in conjunction with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office to help dispose of unwanted medications and medical utensils.
“It’s just a chance for people to come and get rid of their unused or unneeded medications,” said Dan Palmer district coordinator for the LSSWMD. “In our area addiction to prescription drugs is very serious and if people find out you have unused medications, you can become a target. We also properly dispose of needles and things of that nature.”
Lawrence County residents looking to discard pills, or sharps can do so at the plaza between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. Last year at the event the LSSWMD collected over 75 pounds of medication and medical supplies.
“All types of medication comes in,” Palmer said. “Everything you can imagine. We’re happy to help get rid of it because of the adverse effects it can have on the environment if improperly disposed and the risk that having lots of unnecessary medication in your home can be.”
Palmer also said he wants to remind people that the recycling bins that used to be placed at the Eagles Club have been moved to the parking lot of World Thrift at 1901 S. Third St.
