A resolution reaffirming targeted revitalization areas in the City of Ironton is on the agenda for tonight’s regular city council meeting.

A paragraph in resolution 14-20 states the areas have been identified based on characteristics of economic distress such as lack of affordable and accessible health care and job opportunities.

The three identified commercial revitalization areas are the downtown business district, Ninth Street Gateway Redevelopment Area and the campus development area.

The resolution also targets certain grants and other funding in support of public and private sector reinvestment.

Resolution 14-19 urging voters to support State Issue I, the renewal of the capital improvements program, will be brought before council for a vote.

The capital improvements program has supported more than 11,500 projects resulting in job creation since 1987. More than $1.8 billion in capital improvements bonds would be authorized if renewed by voters on May 6.

Ordinance 14-18 authorizing Mayor Rich Blankenship to award contracts for the disposal of municipal solid waste will have its first reading. The ordinance enters the city into a two-year contract with River Cities Disposal for a fixed rate of $17 per ton if adopted.

Ordinance 14-17 executing an agreement with Southern Ohio Trenching and Excavating for construction of the North Fifth and Elm streets sanitary sewer separation phase II will have its second reading.
