PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons did a little double dipping and it paid well.

The Dragons knocked off the Wayne Pioneers in a doubleheader 10-3 and 7-6 on Saturday.

The Dragons had 17 hits in the two games including two clutch three-run hits to win the second game.

Fairland (5-4) had nine hits in the first game and all the hits came in their two scoring innings.

In the first game, the Dragons scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Collin Damron tripled in a run and then Tyler Campbell singled and Garrett Scheibelhood and Dylan Murphy had RBI doubles.

“That got us going. We haven’t been hitting all year and that got us going,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward.

Wayne got within 4-2 in the third, but the Dragons used seven hits to score six times in the fifth.

After a couple of walks, Kyle Sowards doubled for a run and Trace Adkins singled in two more. Luke Phillips bunted for a hit that helped produce a run.

“We had all our hits in two innings but we got them at the right time,” said Ward.

Brandon Burcham got the win in the first game. Adam Taylor recorded the save.

In the second game, Fairland trailed 5-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Campbell and Scheibelhood walked and Murphy slammed a three-run homer.

Wayne got a run in the top of the seventh to lead 6-4, but Taylor walked, Sowards and Adkins singled to load the bases and Damron unloaded a line drive triple to right-center that cleared the bases for the win.

Sowards was 4-for-7 on the day.

Hayden James got the win in relief for the Dragons.
