IRONTON — James J. Sheridan, 68, of Ironton, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009.
He was born March 19, 1941, in Ironton, the son of the late Eugene and Elizabeth (Sherman) Sheridan. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School with the class of 1959. Jim attended Morehead University and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired in 1999 from Aristech Chemical in Haverhill, Ohio after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Ironton. He was also well known as one of the “pine tree coaches” and the Ironton Fighting Tigers biggest fan as he did not miss a game in 35 years.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Margaret “Margie” Saunders and a niece, Peggy Monnig, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years and they cherished every moment they were together. Sharon (Beals) Sheridan whom he married on June 15, 1967; one son and daughter-in-law: James Michael Sheridan and wife Jill; one daughter and son-in-law: Anne Marie and Alan Parrott; two granddaughters: Sabrina “Bean” and Sydnie “Blue Eyes” Sheridan who loved their Papz more than the world and loved to tease him with the nickname “Dagwood“, a special joke between he and the girls; his brothers: Charles “Duke” Sheridan and Vince (Debbie) Sheridan; sisters: Mary Gene (George) Patterson, Carolyn Sheridan, Denise (Larry) Collins, Debra (Mark) Bamer, Frances (Chris) Kimbler, Laura Sheridan, Kim (Rick) Boll and brother-in-law, Dale Saunders and his best friends; John Winters and Father Charles Moran, a host of family and friends and Jim’s special pal, Ozzie, who was always by his side.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Charles Moran officiating. Internment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Friends may call at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. on Sunday with a Rosary service at 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to any of the following: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, St. Joseph Church of Ironton or St Anne’s Church of Chesapeake.
