The Lawrence Scioto Solid Waste Management District is having a countywide cleanup day on Saturday, May 3.
The cleanup is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. The focus of the cleanup will be helping to beautify the county as well as make the local environment safer for residents.
“A lot of local organizations get involved in this event,” said Dan Palmer, district coordinator for the LSSWMD. “We have churches, schools, and other groups who go out and collect trash, as well as individual residents.”
The cleanup can also be beneficial to local students who need community service hours, LSSWMD education specialist Stephanie Helms said.
“We get a lot of students out, and we encourage that,” Helms said. “It’s a win-win situation for them because they can come out and use the time as part of their community service hours they need for school. But, it also instills a sense of pride in them for their community, all of the kids that do it end up glad they did.”
Last year the LSSWMD collected 1,052 bags of trash throughout the county. The trash bags will be supplied by the LSSWMD. If you would like to participate or have questions about other events the LSSWMD has planned call 532-1231 for more information.
