SOUTH POINT — Jake Cogan, 89, of South Point, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Scioto County native was born June 23, 1920, the son of the late Louis and Emma Hughes Cogan. He is survived by his wife, Frances Marie Daniel Cogan, whom he married Aug. 26, 1953.
Mr. Cogan was a 1942 graduate of Hanging Rock High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former welder for Armco Steel, retiring in 1983 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the South Point United Methodist Church where he was a church usher and greeter for years and a loving husband and grandfather. He enjoyed photography, carpentry, working outdoors and doing yardwork.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Blagg; two brothers, Charles Cogan and Walter Cogan and a granddaughter, Deborah Kilver.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Michael Hardy of Kokomo, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Fred Kilver of South Point; a daughter and son-in-law, Christie and Randy Keffer of South Point; a son and daughter-in-law, Carlton and Mary Cogan of South Point; eight grandchildren, Christopher Hardy, Elizabeth Kilver Goodrich, Jacob Kilver, Rebecca Kilver, Anna Keffer, Andrew Keffer, Jake Cogan, and Maddie Cogan; a great granddaughter, Brooke Wininger; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Ethel Cogan of Newark and a sister, Mary Ferguson of Cincinnati.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
