PEDRO — Clarence E. “Clair” Depriest, Sr. 80, of Pedro, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Pedro native was born June 11, 1929, the son of the late Dewey Edward and Helen Sharp Depriest. He is survived by his wife, Linda Smith Depriest, whom he married in 1952.
Mr. Depriest attended Pedro Schools and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former employee at the Marquette Cement Plant for 27 years where he was a drag and crane operator and also a former employee with the Dayton Malleable Company. He was an avid coon hunter and had several special hunting buddies. He attended Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Pedro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Clara J. Williams; a sister, Manella Herrell; and four brothers, Rev. Edward D. Depriest, Walter Depriest, Donald Depriest, and Raymond Depriest.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Perry and Kitty Aldridge of Kitts Hill; daughter, Debbie Depriest of Pedro; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Bill Harper of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Clarence E. Jr. and Brenda Depriest of Pedro;vdaughter, Edwina Workman of Pedro; daughter and son-in-law, Suzie and Gregory Crisp of Pedro; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gertrude Carman of Coal Grove, Teresa and Gene Kidd, Verna and Donald McFann all of Ironton, Rosella Besco, Vera Markel and Judy Alford, all of Pedro; and a son-in-law, Daniel R. Williams of Pedro.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, with Pastor Bryon Carmon officiating. Burial will follow in Puckett Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 8850.
