IRONTON — Work to demolish Central School should be completed today.
The demolition started with asbestos abatement, which is already completed. Crews began tearing down the building Wednesday.
“It should be on the ground by (Thursday),” Dean Nance, superintendent of Ironton City Schools, said.
Originally an elementary school, the building was most recently used for a Head Start program from the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization and Ironton’s preschool program.
Once the building is demolished and the site is returned to usable property, the school district plans to sell the property as residential lots. The project is funded 73 percent by the State of Ohio, Nance said.
