Athlete raising money for Australia trip
Rock Hill senior and track team member Brooklyn Massie has been invited to participate in the 26th annual Down Under Sports Tournaments in Australia this summer and is currently looking for sponsors to make donations toward the cost.
Massie competes in the hurdles, high jump and long jump competitions and would be a member of the North Central Conference Track and Field Team.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said. “Sponsorship is a very important part of the fundraising.”
President of Down Under Sports George O’Scanlon said his company “wholeheartedly endorses” Massie,
“We have to raise more than $5,000,” Jennifer Roach, Massie’s mother, said. “We have raised $700 in a month.”
The event takes place in July and a major source of funds stems from voluntary contributions from family, friends and businesses.
Donations to Massie’s effort can be made online at www.downundersports.com or by contacting Roach at 740-534-0857.
