PORTSMOUTH — The Rock Hill Redwomen didn’t lose the lead in the third quarter, but they may have lost the game.

After leading at the half, the Redwomen found themselves tied after three quarter and then lost 78-67 to the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers on Saturday.

“We played a great game,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron. “We were hitting well, but there was a stretch in the third quarter that hurt us.

“We had some turnovers and we got in some foul trouble and just lost the momentum. Then they just made some shots down the stretch and pulled away.”

Rock Hill (3-11) had four players in double figures. Kasey Russell, Anna Darby and Sarah Travis all scored 14 points while Madison Damron had 10.

Portsmouth Clay (10-5) was led by Lexie Gilliland with a game-high 27 points. Emily Widdowson scored 20, Shannon Curly 16 and Katie Redding 15.

Russell had five points and Widdowson eight in the first quarter and it was 16-all.

Russell got six more points in the second quarter and Damron hit a halfcourt shot at the buzzer as Rock Hill pulled away to a 35-26 lead. Gilliland had five points for Clay.

Samantha Dillon and Travis combined for nine points in the third quarter but Gilliland had 11 points as Clay rallied to tie the game at 52.

Widdowson scored seven points and Curley had eight including 5-of-6 from the foul line as the Lady Panthers outscored Rock Hill 26-15.
