Wm. Isom Gibson, 79, of Ironton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 2010, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
The South Point native was born July 9, 1930, the son of the late Averell Z. and Millie Lowe Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Evans Gibson, whom he married Sept. 3, 1955.
He was a 1947 graduate of South Point High School, where he was a pitcher for the Pointers’ baseball team.
He retired in 1986 from the Lawrence County Engineer’s Office with 37 years of service. He was ordained in 1960 as a minister and loved his time as pastor at several area churches. He was a member of Decatur Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by:
a sister: Lelia Vodhanel.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Robert Hutchinson of Pedro; three grandchildren, Roger Hutchinson of Chesapeake, Ben Hutchinson, and Andrea Hutchinson both of Pedro; a brother and sister-in-law, A. Robert and Sue Gibson of Lexington, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Revs. Brian Phillips, James Cremeans, and Dale Knipp officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
