LLOYD, Ky. — Just like a dried up creek, there was no flow.
In a game that featured more whistle blowing than an FBI informant after 10 years inside the mafia, the Greenup County Lady Musketeers beat the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 58-46 Thursday.
A total of 56 fouls where called and the teams combined to shoot 60 free throws in the game that last nearly two hours. Ironton was 19-of-37 and Greenup 10-of-23.
“There just wasn’t any flow to the game. It was hard to do anything offensively and defensively,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.
Lexie Barrier had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals before fouling out with 4:32 to play and Ironton down 52-40.
Taylor Hannan scored 11 points, Alyssa Lewis came off the bench to score 9 points and Macy Wise pulled down 15 rebounds for Ironton (3-4).
Sydney Webb had 15 points and Haley Valandingham 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead Greenup County (3-1). Micah Leslie added 13 points.
A free throw by Barrier at the 6:51 mark of the first quarter gave Ironton its only lead of the game at 3-2.
The game was tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter after a 10-footer by Lewis.
Cheyenne Scott made two foul shots to tie the game at 14 with 6:50 left in the half and it was the last time the Lady Tigers drew even.
Katie Thompson made two foul shots seconds later and the Lady Musketeers never trailed.
Ironton got within 21-20 with 3:30 left in the half on a layup by Lewis, but Webb hit an 8-footer, a trifecta and a layup to close the half and put Greenup ahead 28-20 at the break.
Greenup went on a 6-0 run to start the second half and take a 34-20 lead.
Barrier hit a 15-footer and a pair of free throws at the 4:36 mark and Ironton was within 36-30. But a layup by Leslie just before the end of the quarter opened up a 47-35 lead.
The Lady Musketeers scored the first five points of the fourth quarter and it was 52-37 with 5:23 to go.
