MANCHESTER — What’s round on the ends and high in the middle? O-HI-O.
What’s flat on the ends and high in the middle? The way the St. Joseph Female Flyers played.
The Female Flyers struggled in the first and fourth quarters in a 47-42 loss to the Manchester Lady Greyhounds Wednesday.
“We started off slowly offensively. We played really well in the second and third quarters, but then we let it get away form us in the fourth quarter,” said Female Flyers ‘ coach Nick Miller.
Hannah Miller scored 18 points and Amber Neal scored 16 to lead the Female Flyers who lost for the first time in five games.
Morgan Johnson had 21 points for Manchester (4-3).
Neal and Haley Bartram each hit 3-pointers in the first quarter but Manchester took a 13-7 lead.
Miller scored 9 points in the second quarter and the Female Flyers held the Lady Greyhounds to 5 points and it was 20-18 at the break.
Neal got the hot hand in the third quarter and scored 10 points as St. Joseph extended its lead to 34-26.
But Tess Burns hit a 3-pointer to get Manchester within 5 and Johnson hit three straight 3-pointers to put the Greyhounds up for good as the Female Flyers were guilty of two turnovers and some missed shots.
Johnson scored 13 points in the quarter. Miller had 7 of St. Joseph’s 8 points.
“We just lost our composure and the Johnson girls had a great quarter,” said coach Miller.
The Female Flyers play at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Coal Grove “River Battle” against Lincoln County, W.Va.
