Leo Adkins

Leo Raymond Adkins, 76, of Wooster, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at his residence in Wooster. The Midkiff, W.Va., native was born July 18, 1937, the son of the late Oley and Esta Arnold Adkins.  He was the husband of Shirley Mae Noel Adkins, of Wooster.

Mr. Adkins was a retired back tinder from PCA (Packing Corporation of America), he attended Guyan Valley Schools and was a member of Mt. Zion Church of God in Wooster.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Adkins, Vernon Adkins and Elijah Adkins; and a sister, Dolly Elkins.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carolyn “ Yvonne” Warner, and her husband, Jeff, of Wooster; grandsons, Joey and Ryan, of Wooster; a brother, Wandell Adkins, of Waterford, Mich.; four sisters, Cassie Wolfe, of Columbus, Leatha Bybee, of Pataskala, Marcella Nelson, of West Hamlin, W.Va., and Dottie Ingersoll, of Wooster; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton with pastor Curtis Elkins officiating. Burial will follow in Slabfork Cemetery. Oakley Malone 

Oakley Malone, 92, of Bowling Green, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green. The Lawrence County native was born March 19, 1921, the son of the late Roy and Ella Phillips Malone.

Oakley attended Decatur Schools. He served as a proud veteran in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was retired as a machinist from Collins Mining Company after 37 years of service.

After retiring, he moved to Bradner, where his hobby was woodworking. His specialty was making childrens’ rockers. He was a member of Decatur Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Stacy, Harold, Clifford and Orville Malone; three sisters, Goldie Taylor, Myrtle Malone and Pearl Malone; a son, Ralph Salyers; and a son-in-law, Ronald DePriest.

Oakley is survived by his companion of 32 years, Mabel Layman, and her son, Fred Layman, of Bowling Green; his daughter and son-in-law, Susie and James (Buddy) Bradley, of Pedro; son and daughter-in-law: Mark and  Patricia Salyers, of Orange, Va.; brother, Kenneth Malone, of Pedro; four grandchildren,  Steve (Valerie) DePriest, of Pedro, Dale (Gina) DePriest, of Kitts Hill, Debbie (Gene) Adams, of Pedro, and Dean (Cindy) DePriest, of Pedro; six great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Rock Massie officiating.  Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Mary Hade

Mary R. Hade, 71, of South Point, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Jo-Lin Health Center in Ironton.  Mary was born Aug. 7, 1942, in Cincinnati, the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy Rowekamp Schardine.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, James J. Hade; and a daughter, Barbara Jean Conley. Mary loved to play bingo.  She is survived by eight children, Susan (Nick) Hanshaw, of South Point, Cheri Luce, of San Diego, Calif., Chuck (Jennifer) Conley, of South Point, Mike (Sally) Conley, of Rush, Ky., Mary Kay Napier, of South Point, Roxanne (Bruce) Johnson  and Carrie (Dave) Hildebrand, all of California, and Pam Buhl, of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Ruth Auckerman, Ann Auckerman and Helen Auckerman; eight brothers, William E. Schardine, Jack Auckerman, Don Auckerman, Blaine Auckerman, Jimmy Auckerman, Bert Auckerman, Louie Auckerman and Larry Auckerman; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 until time of service at 3 p.m. at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point with pastor Trent Carpenter of C-3 Church in South Point officiating.
