Two local shopping events this week are set to provide holiday shoppers with another place to pick up the perfect Christmas gift.
The first is the South Point Christmas Bazaar, which is scheduled for this Friday at the South Point Community Center. The second event is Burlington’s Christmas on the River event, set for Saturday and Sunday at the site of the former Snip and Curl hair salon off of County Road 1.
Both events are seeking to put an emphasis on supporting local vendors, artists and businesses and that spending money locally can have positive benefits to Lawrence County.
“We have so many talented people in this area,” Patricia Plaster organizer of the South Point Christmas Bazaar said. “Not all of them have ways to get the word out about what they create or a way to sell it to the public. I decided rent the community center and do the bazaar.”
Jona Younce organizer for Christmas on the River echoed Plaster’s sentiments about supporting local artisans.
“I decided to do this after talking to a group of local artists,” said Younce. “It’s important to buy and shop local, to support local people. It keeps the money in our community.”
The two shopping events will offer a variety of items ranging from crafts to clothes and accessories, all sold by local vendors or made by local artists.
The South Point Christmas Bazaar will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 6 p.m. on Friday while Christmas on the River will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday.
