PROCTORVILLE — Construction on what will be a senior living community is on target for its spring 2014 opening.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for Wyngate at RiversEdge, an 87-unit $13.5 million project, was held Sept. 10 across from the fairgrounds in Proctorville on Wyngate at RiversEdge, an 87-unit $13.5 million project.

It is a Chancellor Senior Management property and Scott Shroyer, the company’s director of operations, said the first set of modular boxes have arrived at the construction site.

“The entire campus will have a total of 86 modular boxes,” he said. “The contractor says over 42 tons of lumber will be used to build the complex.”

A modular box is a preconstructed wooden shell that acts as the foundation for construction. The facility will create more than 50 jobs and will also feature an on-site urgent care facility that will be open to the public operated by Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Of the 87 units, 28 are for independent living and 59 are for assisted living.

“We like the thought that people who live the longest aren’t those who have lived the most years, but those who had the greatest sensibility of life,” Shroyer said. “We will provide a caring environment that offers comfort, security, fellowship and personal growth.”

Chancellor Senior Management Director of Administrative Services Mike DePaola projects the facility will provide a million dollars annually to the local economy.

Wyngate at RiversEdge is expected to open in April 2014. Residents will pay on a month-to-month basis and be provided 24-hour nurses, three meals a day, planned activities, housekeeping and laundry services, utilities and transportation.
