“We are pleased to welcome Jim Harris as our keynote speaker,” Robert Pleasant, coordinator of diversity and inclusion at OUS, said. “He has presented at a variety of conferences from the local to the international levels.”

Harris is the owner of Opportunities Consulting Services and has worked extensively with individuals and families as an interventionist, parent educator, behavioral consultant and behavioral health therapist. He is the creator of the audio program “10 Things You Need to Know About Kids” aimed at helping parents and teachers be more effective in their work with children.

“Mr. Harris believes the art of communication is presenting information in a way people can understand it,” Pleasant said. “Then they can apply that information to their lives.”

The event will include a working lunch and general updates. Participants must preregister at www.southernohio.edu/counselorday/.

Other workshop sessions include Working with Parents: Getting and Keeping Parents involved in Middle School; Cross Cultural Communication for Educators and Students; Fostering Promise: What Educators Need to Know to Help Children in Foster Care Succeed; and Challenging Behavior: The What and How.
