Low temps don’t slow farmers market

It was all about apples at the Ironton Farmers Market on Saturday.
Those who attended the event had the chance to sample free fried apples over biscuits.
The apples were prepared on site and began getting served at 9:30 a.m. Kelley’s Bridge Band took the stage at 10 a.m. and entertained the crowd with its Irish music.
“We’re looking forward to 2014 and we will have a busy winter planning for even bigger and better events for next year,” Sam Heighton, market manager, said. “I would like to thank Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital for their sponsorship this season. They have exceeded expectations.”
Honey was available at the market this weekend, something that has not been available often this season. The market’s nearly 20 vendors were offering apple butter, jellies, jams, pickles, candy and baked goods.
The Farmers Market is a project of Ironton aLive and concludes Saturday, Oct. 26.
