FRED ASHWORTH

PEDRO — Fred Ashworth, 89 of Pedro, passed away June 2, 2010, surrounded by family.
He was born June 3, 1920 in Decatur to the late George and Luvada Massie Ashworth.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Mildred Vera Cade Ashworth and Shirley Sutton Samples Ashworth; brothers, Vincent Ashworth, Burl Ashworth, Woodrow (Pete) Ashworth and George Ashworth; sisters, Vern Hannaberry, Stella Wiseman, Emma Donagan, Odessa Fox, Lotus Harner, Ruby Todd, Sylvia Arbaugh, Gladys Ashworth and Sara Ashworth; and a stepgranddaughter, Carrie Jenkins.
He is survived by his children; a son, Fred Atlee Ashworth; a daughter, Sharline Ashworth Blankenship and her husband, Larry; stepchildren, Patty Jenkins, Mike Samples and Rhonda Stevens; grandchildren, Sherri Blankenship Sturgill, Terri Blankenship Pennington, Michelle Ashworth Sites and her husband, Emmitt, Fredrick Blankenship and his wife, Angie and Ted Ashworth; stepgrandchildren, David Stevens and Lee Samples; great grandchildren, Brittney Pennington Keyes and her husband, Buddie, Ryan Maddy, Savannah Maddy, Emily Sturgill, Brandon Blankenship, Bradley Blankenship, Will Sites, Evan Sites, Michael Carter and Joel Utsinger; and great great grandchild, Asher Keyes.
Fred was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from the C&O Railroad as an engineer with 41 years and a proud World War II veteran awarded the Purple Heart for combat wounded.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 51, a member of the Farmers Association Bee Keepers of America, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Frasure and the Rev. Homer Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.
