It was one of those up and down weeks for the St. Joseph Female Flyers.

The Female Flyers beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 2-1 on Wednesday before falling 4-0 to the Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joe Lady Fighting Irish on Saturday.

In the win over Chesapeake, Sidney Payne scored an unassisted goal and Emma Saxby scored the other goal with an assist from Hannah Miller.

Taylor Bare had an unassisted goal for Chesapeake.

“Chesapeake gave us a difficult game. We had more possessions and more scoring chances, but Chesapeake really defended well and their (goal) keeper made some great saves,” said St. Joseph coach Kyle Weatherholt.

“In the second half our effort was good, play was good, but we just couldn’t break them down. It was one of those nights when we couldn’t get the shots to go in.”

On Saturday, the Female Flyers faced their toughest test of the season against the Lady Irish.

“They’re very strong technically in all positions. They’re also strong physically. They are a very good team and they deserved to win,” said Weatherholt.

“I’m proud of the way our girls played. We battled for 80 minutes and our effort never dropped off. We defended well in the first half and created a few scoring chances although they had more possession and numerous scoring chances.”

Emily Yablonsky, Sydney Porter, Kadin Gould and Lindsay Bates scored goals for the Lady Irish.

St. Joseph (8-2) hosts Portsmouth West at 5 p.m. Tuesday and closes out the regular season with home games against Northwest at 5:30 Wednesday and North Adams at 1 p.m. Saturday.
