ROME TOWNSHIP — Top honors in the rabbit show earlier this week were taken by members of the same 4-H club.

Cody Landrum, 15, of Chesapeake, and Briana Dickess, 17, of Willow Wood, were awarded grand champion and reserve champion, respectively. Both are members of the Greasy Ridge 4-H Club.

Landrum called winning grand champion an unbelievable experience and admits to being “very nervous” when he went before the judges.

“I got out every day and worked with them,” he said.

His mother, Melissa Landrum, credits her son’s work ethic for his win in the show ring.

“He worked really hard these last few years to get this far,” she said.

Dickess reiterated Landrum’s philosophy as to the secret for getting the Reserve Champion honors.

“I play with my bunnies every day,” she said.

The 4-Hers adviser Jeri Stallo chalked up the win to a number of reasons.

“They made a good selection, bought from a reputable breeder and diligently cared for their animals,” Stallo said. “I am really proud.”

For the second time in as many years, Zach Hager, of Willow Wood, was named senior showman for rabbits.

“I was nervous for the show,” he said. “I felt really proud. My work paid off.”

For his first time in the showman show ring, Beckett Sites, 12, of Chesapeake, was named junior showman for rabbits.

Sites is a member of the Scottown Farmers.

“I tried to study hard and work real hard,” he said. “I tried to keep cool so my rabbit would stay calm.”

His mother, Keri Sites, attributed her son’s win to his dedication to the project.

“He took lots of pride in it,” she said. “It was a very good learning experience.”
