Nine members of the community have been appointed to the newly formed Dangerous Wild Animal Response Team by the Lawrence County Commission.

The appointment was made during the commission’s regular Thursday meeting.

The creation of the team was prompted by the 2011 incident in Muskingum County where the owner of dangerous wildlife released his animals into the community.

Among the duties of the team would be to devising a dangerous wild animal response plan.

Appointed were sheriff’s deputy Julia Jones; Deering fire chief, Dewey Derifield, EMS director Buddy Fry, Emergency Management Agency director Michael Boster, Debbie Fisher and Georgia Dillon from the health department, Symmes Trustee Ron Hatfield, veterinarian Dr. Mike Dyer and county dog warden Bill Click.

Also at the meeting the commission approved a contract with Gallia County at a rate of $85 per bed to place juveniles at the Lawrence County Juvenile Center.

Because of the July 4 holiday next week’s meeting will be Tuesday, July 2.
