COAL GROVE — The Village of Coal Grove issued a boil water advisory Sunday afternoon after a main line burst on Pike Street.

Debbie Fields, village utility clerk, said the advisory covers anyone whose water service was disrupted. She said the water is safe to use for watering plants and the like, but it is strongly suggested those affected to boil their water before consuming it.

“We don’t know exactly when it happened, but our crew was called out about 3 p.m. after receiving calls of low pressure,” Fields said. “We returned water service at approximately 10 p.m.”

Per EPA regulation, Fields said the village’s water plant operator must take two good samples from the repaired line before removing the boil water advisory. She said that is expected to happen late this evening, or sometime Tuesday.

The Village of Coal Grove received a grant two years ago to put in additional shutoff valves, Fields said. She said this makes it so only affected places can be shut down, limiting those impacted during situations such as this one.
