PORTSMOUTH — When the Portsmouth Trojans need to make some noise, they just blow their own Horne.
Tory Horne continued his hot-shooting as he scored 32 points to lead the Trojans to a 78-70 win over the Chesapeake Panthers Saturday.
Horne had six 3-point goals in his point total and the Trojan had eight as a team.
“We just didn’t play with any intensity and we gave them too many easy looks on the perimeter,” said Chesapeake coach Ryan Davis.
Dion McKinley scored 20 points and Tre Underwood 16 for the Trojans (9-6).
Chesapeake (12-4) was led by Austin McMaster with 24 points. Nathan Copley had 16 points and 8 rebounds, Colin Kennedy scored 14 points before fouling out and Trent Saunders had 8 points and 7 rebounds.
Horne hit three treys in the first quarter to counter 8 points by McMaster as the Trojans took a 27-20 lead.
Kennedy got 5 points in the second quarter and the Panthers held Horne scoreless to get within 40-34 at the break.
McMaster had 7 points in the third quarter as Chesapeake rallied to within 58-54 at the end of the third quarter.
Copley had 6 points in the fourth quarter including 4-of-4 at the line, but Horne scored 23 of his points in the second half as Portsmouth held on to win.
