BIDWELL — Only the strong survive.

The Rock Hill Redwomen showed their strength as they survived sub-par performance with a 10-6 win over the River Valley Lady Raiders on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We survived. It wasn’t a pretty game, but it was a win,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Jane Harper.

Rock Hill (10-3, 6-1) was out-hit 11-8 and committed four errors, but timely hitting produced the win.

Sami Nixon gave up 11 hits but struck out 11 and walked two to get the win.

Kenzi Martin keyed the offense by going 2-4 with a home run.

River Valley led 2-0 after three innings but Rock Hill took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth.

Nixon singled and Martin clubbed a two-run homer to tie the game.

Kenzi Harrah then walked, Kaelynn Ellis singled and Sami Dillon reached on an error for the go-ahead run.

The Redwomen erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning.

Jenna Lane walked, stole second, moved up when Nixon reached on an error and scored on a passed ball.

Courtesy runner Emmalee Ellis stole second and scored on a hit by Brooke Hanshaw. Martin singled and Harrah singled with a run scoring on an outfield error. A wild pitch scored another run.

Kaelynn Ellis and Dillon walked and Lane capped the rally with a two-run single.

Rock Hill hosts Coal Grove on Monday.

NOTE: Coach Harper recorded her 200th career win on Monday when the Redwomen beat Chesapeake 13-2.
