PEDRO — In the biggest game of the season so far, the South Point Lady Pointers gave their biggest effort.

The Lady Pointers beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 7-1 on Wednesday to take over sole possession of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference.

“We played our best game of the season,” said South Point coach Tanner Heaberlin.

“We hit, played good defense and Kaitlyn Brown pitched another solid game. I was really impressed with our play coming after our first loss last night.”

South Point is now 7-1 and 5-0 in the OVC. Rock Hill fell to 7-2 and 4-1.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when Abbey Winkler singled and Sylvia Griffith hit a two-run homer.

Bonnie Hileman hit a solo home run in the third inning to make it 3-0.

The Lady Pointers opened up a 6-0 lead with three runs in the fifth inning.

Haley Rawlins doubled, Griffith walked and Andi Kleinman reached on an error for a run. Halie Powell hit a sacrifice fly and Hannah Carey singled home courtesy runner Emilee Powell.

South Point’s final run came in the sixth on a hit by Winkler, a sacrifice by Bri Whaley and Rawlin’s base hit.

Rock Hill avoided the shutout in the bottom of the seventh on a double by Kenzi Martin and a single by Lindy Simpson.

Brown pitched a five-hitter and struck out seven to get the win.

Sami Nixon got the loss as she allow 10 hits despite racking up 13 strikeouts.

Rawlins was 3-4 and Winkler 2-3 to lead the Lady Pointers’ offense.
