SOUTH POINT — Two big innings key a big win for the South Point Pointers who routed the Fairview Eagles 13-3 in five innings on Thursday.
South Point (4-3) had 10 hits led by Alex Whitt who was 3-4 with two runs batted in. Austin Majher and Trey Kearns were both 2-3.
Chris Woodard got the win as he scattered eight hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
The Pointers jumped in front 7-0 in the first inning.
Majher and Whitt singled and Brandon Boggs doubled for two runs. Josh Browning reached on an error as a run scored and then stole second and third and scored on a hit by Trey Kearns.
Luke Kelley was safe on an error, Patrick Jones singled, Majher walked to force in a run and Whitt delivered a two-run single.
Woodard walked and Browning and Kearns singled to make it 8-0 in the top of the second.
Fairview (3-8) got two runs in the second and one in the third to trail 8-3, but the Pointers scored five runs in the fifth to create the mercy rule win.
Whitt singled and Boggs, Larry Brandon, Woodard and Browning all reached on errors. Kearns then singled to drive in the run that created the mercy rule win.
