Eric Waginger and Pat Malone accounted for all the goals as the St. Joe Flyers blanked the Portsmouth Trojans 5-0 Thursday in a soccer game.

Waginger scored three goals and assisted on Malone’s two goals. Malone in turn had two assists to go with his two goals as St. Joe remained unbeaten.

Goalie John "Bub" Waginger had his fifth shutout of the season as St. Joe improved to 7-0-2. Bub Waginger had 16 saves compared to 13 for Portsmouth.

"The defense is doing really well," Flyers coach John Schwab said. "As a team we’re playing really well. We need to keep focused and keep the success of this season."

Malone scored the first goal at the 10:21 mark with an assist from Eric Waginger. The second goal was an unassisted shot by Waginger and the third goal came on a corner kick by Waginger off an assist from Malone.

Waginger had an assist as Malone scored the fourth goal with 37:29 on the clock in the first half.

An assist by Malone enabled Waginger to score a goal eight minutes into the second half and end the scoring.

St. Joe will host Portsmouth West at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clouston Field.

Lady Panthers win

CHESAPEAKE – The Chesapeake Lady Panthers took a hard-fought Ohio Valley Conference volleyball win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Thursday.

Chesapeake won the varsity match in three sets, 17-15, 13-15, and 15-11. The Lady Panthers also took the reserve game 15-2, 15-13.

The varsity was led by Michelle Christian with 10 points and Ashley Mayenchein with 8 points.
