PEDRO - Figures don’t like, but liars figure. And in the case of the Rock Hill Redmen, figures don’t tell the story.

The only figure that mattered Friday night was the number of points on the scoreboard as the Minford Falcons edged the Rock Hill Redmen 14-6.

Rock Hill (6-3) dominated the game statistically, but the Falcons took advantage of four Redmen turnovers to hang on for the win.

"We dominated the ball game everywhere except on the scoreboard," Rock Hill coach Andy Hall said. "Our defensive front played really well. They dominated the line of scrimmage and our secondary played well. We did a good job of containing Parkes."

Rock Hill’s defensive front was led by the play of Kevin Dilley and J. D. Stevens who had three quarterback sacks. Hall said the secondary of Josh Furh, Josh Friend, and Josh Harper "all played a great game."

Eli Parkes, Minford’s leading rusher, was held to just 46 yards on 12 carries.

Rock Hill had 386 total yards including 251 on the ground and 135 through the air. Minford was held to 92 total yards, 86 rushing.

"Defensively, we did what we wanted to do. From 20-to-20, we played as well as we could," said Hall. "I was disappointed that we couldn’t execute in the red zone. The last two games we haven’t been able to convert in the red zone. The key to the game was the fact we didn’t score when we had our chance."

"It’s a huge disappointment," Hall said.

The only big gain of the game for Minford was a 70-yard run by freshman Matt Slone to the 5-yard line that set up a 5-yard touchdown run by Parkes in the first quarter. Jeremy Frazie kicked the point after and it was 7-0.

Rock Hill had a drive going in the third quarter when disaster struck.

Faced with a fourth and 3 at their own 40, the Redmen gambled and Dilley picked up the first down with a 10-yard run.

But two plays later the Redmen fumbled on an option, the ball bounced into the air, and Parkes grabbed the free ball and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Frazie’s kick pushed the lead to 14-0.

"That was a big momentum swing," Hall said.

Rock Hill did score in the fourth quarter to get within 14-6. Quarterback Gabe Medinger had a 25-yard run that set up Johnny Webb’s 5-yard touchdown scamper. The conversion pass failed.

But the Redmen could not muster another scoring drive.

"It’s a huge disappointment," Hall said.

Scott Turley ran 18 times for 101 yards to lead the Redmen while Richie Webb gained 81 yards on 20 attempts. Medinger hit 10 of 20 passes for 135 yards with Harper catching four tosses for 70 yards.
