Even though the cold weather hit hard Wednesday – the area experienced temperatures in the low 30s during the day and upper 20s last night – the sun has come back out.

And the temperatures, they are a-changin’.

Beginning today, area residents should experience warmer weather through the weekend, said John Victory, meteorologist with the Charleston, W.Va., bureau of the National Weather Service.

Southerly winds and partly sunny skies will help warm temperatures on Friday. Highs should be mostly in the 60s, the National Weather Service said.

Lows tonight will be 35-40.

"From here on out today, there will be warmer weather," Victory said. "Usually after a cold blast like this, it warms up pretty good."

The warm weather is expected to last through the weekend with highs in the 60s and lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s at night, he said.

There are no expected rain or storms in sight.

Even if the cold snap persists, the chilly air won’t stop walkers like Phyllis and Joseph Brown of Ironton.

Their two-and-a-half-mile daily walk would go on as planned, except with an extra layer of warm clothing, the couple said.
