Tonight the Ironton City Council will consider whether or not to ask voters to consider another recreation levy for the city.

If the resolution passes, voters would see the half-mill levy on the ballot for this year’s general election on Nov. 6.

According to the resolution, the levy would commence with the tax year 2013 and continue through 2017, and that without it, “funds will otherwise be inadequate for the necessary requirements of the recreation board.”

The previous levy, adopted in 2008, was defeated by a narrow margin of 112 votes at the general election last November.

Council will also hear a resolution authorizing participation in the Lawrence County Engineer Shared Services program. The agreement between the county engineer and the City of Ironton would allow for technical assistance, materials and maintenance to be provided to each other.

Also on the agenda are three third readings of ordinances for grit collector replacement at the wastewater plant, a change order with Field’s Excavation for work performed on the North Ironton sanitary sewer separation project, and a contract with Ohio University Southern for police security.

There will also be a first reading of an ordinance to purchase chemicals for the year for water treatment.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in council chambers with a brief finance committee meeting at 5:55 p.m. for the purpose of giving recommendations to ordinances on the council agenda.
