PROCTORVILLE — The Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Proctorville will turn into the Tri-State House of Pancakes later this month as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Lawrence County comes to town.
The organization’s pancake breakfast kick-off rally is set for Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The event is open to the public and is designed to inform the community on ways to be involved with Relay For Life.
“Anyone who has ever wondered how to help, this is the time to find out,” Alisha Jenkins, income development representative for the American Cancer Society, said. “If you are a cancer survivor, have had a family member with cancer or just want to help fight we want you to come out.”
Relay For Life is an overnight community event featuring camping, barbecue and walking around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. The track lit by luminaria to honor cancer surviors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease.
The Relay For Life will begin Saturday, May 18 at noon and go through Sunday, May 19 at 6 a.m. at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Proctorville. Jenkins said they are always looking for more volunteers for the planning committee and relay teams.
