A West Virginia company has received the bid for repairing the largest county landslide that resulted from massive rains in the spring of 2012.

Alan Stone Co. of Williamstown, W.Va., was awarded the contract to repair the slip on County Road 6 or Deering-Bald Knob Road for $692,837.

At its regular Thursday meeting the Lawrence County approved the contract with Alan Stone.

“Work should start in January,” County Engineer Doug Cade told the commissioners.

The project is expected to shut down the roadway for approximately 90 days.

“In the middle of winter, it takes a little longer,” Cade said.

In other action the commission:

• Approved the donation of sick time at the Lawrence County EMS in the amount of 150 hours so an employee can care for a sick spouse;

• Received notification of the retirement of County Prosecutor J.B. Collier;

• Received notification that County Prosecutor-elect Brigham Anderson will work as prosecutor on a part-time basis as he maintains his private practice. He will draw 50 percent of the prosecutor’s salary;

• Approved awarding contract to Solid Rock Construction for demolition of structures at South Ninth Street;

• Accepted the weekly dog warden’s report where 27 dogs were adopted or went to a rescue; no dogs were destroyed; and two dogs were redeemed by their owners.
